Resumen : Entre los pacientes que acuden a la consulta odontológica, la hipersensibilidad dentinaria HD es muy frecuente…
Descripción : Among patients who come to the dentist's office, dentin hypersensitivity (HD) is very frequent. Generally, it manifests as a short pain of severe intensity when subjecting the dentin to chemical, thermal, evaporative or tactile stimuli. The loss of tooth structure as in the case of erosions, atrictions, abfractions or abrasions and gingival recessions, are clinical situations that can lead to a dentine exposure that favors the appearance of dentine hypersensitivity. Aim: To report the effect of the chewing of Kalanchoe Pinnata leaves on tooth sensitivity. Material and methods: It is a report of clinical cases of 3 patients with dental hypersensitivity. The diagnostic tools to be used prior to and during the initiation of the therapy were: Schiff cold air sensitivity scale and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The patients included in this report chewed 2.5gr of fresh Kalanchoe Pinnata leaves for 10 minutes for 11 consecutive days. Five initial controls were performed every 48 hours and 3 controls in 7, 15 and 30 days after the last day of therapy, applying the aforementioned scales and recording the results in a record sheet. Results: After the application of the Schiff and VAS scales in the defined time intervals, a positive tendency was observed in the painful perception of the cold air stimulus, which was decreasing in the course of the treatment and remaining at low levels at the end of the treatment.
