Descripción : The present study was carried out under the scheme of case report in the dairy herd La Convalecencia in the province of Carchi, in which it was identified as problematic the fact that a diagnosis of Bovine Leukosis has never been made in its animals, for which the objectives of the study arose, which were: to determine antibodies against bovine leukosis virus, to calculate the real and apparent seroprevalences of the disease in the herd and the identification of predisposing factors. As a methodology, clinical examinations were performed and a total of 179 blood serum samples corresponding to the total bovine population of the herd were tested with the Id Screen® BLV competition kit, a competitive ELISA that detects antibodies against the gp51 glycoprotein of the bovine leukosis virus; in addition, an identification of predisposing factors to the disease was carried out by the use of a check list. The results of the study showed a real prevalence of 14.7percent (23 animals) and an apparent prevalence of 12.8 percent. As well, of the 14 factors included in the check list, 78.5 percent (11) were present, and of these, 4 of them correspond to a high risk level due to their involvement with blood inoculation. It was concluded that the sanitary status of the herd La Convalescence against Bovine Leukosis is that the disease is actively present in 23 of 179 animals and that the risk factors present are mostly associated with inadequate sanitary practices.
