The objective of the present non-randomized, controlled, cross- over study was to evaluate the intracranial pressure by measuring the diameter of the sheath that makes up the optic nerve by applying an anesthetic protocol based on ketamine and another protocol based on propofol, in order to study the differences between canine patients from both the control group and the treatment group. Ten healthy canine patients were recruited. Of all the patients who attended the clinic between the period from September 25 to October 29, who underwent a programmed dental prophylaxis procedure, the subjects being their own control. These patients had to comply with the selection criteria proposed for the study, as well as having an informed consent with the signature of its owner. The diameter of the sheath that forms the optic nerve was measured by transpalpebral ultrasound, bilaterally to each patient, throughout the dental prophylaxis (40 minutes). The results obtained were studied by means of the t-test statistical test, in which no significant differences were observed in both the control group and the treatment group; In addition, the Anova statistical test of repeated measures was carried out in which no significant differences were observed regarding the behavior of this structure within the treatment group and the control group respectively, thus it is concluded that ketamine at a dose of 7 mg / kg, I do not present a significant difference in the increase or decrease in the diameter of the optic nerve sheath.en
