| Descripción : | C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase protein produced mainly by the liver, when inflammatory processes, which lead to tissue damage, are triggered. The CRP is known to rise on canine pancreatitis. In human medicine, CRP is a very useful indicator in patients with pancreatitis to assess the severity of the disease and verify if the treatment has been effective. In the veterinary hospital “All Pets” there was performed the CRP measurement in 4 patients with pancreatitis, that were also evaluated by means of a severity index (SI). The patients chosen were positive ones for the specific pancreatic lipase test, who underwent serial measurements for the CRP and the IDS tests. This case study found that the CRP was elevated and remained that way even after discharge, and that there was no relationship between the CRP and the clinical IDS. For the presentation of the following case report, the CARE guidelines were followed, on points such as patient information, diagnosis plan, treatment and results. |
