Resumen : OBJETIVO: Determinar el efecto del uso de la caminadora anti gravitatoria Alter G en la reintegración a la actividad física en esguinces de tobillo...
Descripción : OBJECTIVE: Determine the effect of the anti-gravity treadmill Alter-G® on ankle sprains in professional soccer players. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included 8 professional soccer players of the Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito team in which was used a conventional treatment plus the use of the Alter-G® treadmill; and 8 players of the Club Deportivo el Nacional team in which only the conventional treatment was used, of grade I and II ankle sprains, chosen randomly. The measurement variables are: pain (measured with EVA), joint range (measured with goniometer), edema (measured with measuring tape) and time (measured with a table of own accounting), the data were taken before and after of the treatment. RESULT: After having finished the treatment, the same methodology was used to reevaluate the players, where significant differences were found within groups (p same 0.000) but not significant inter group in the variables of pain, joint range in plantiflexion, edema; the joint range in the dorsiflexion movement was the only variable with significant difference between groups (p same 0.021). The time in reintegration to physical activity did not have a significant difference (F (1, 14) same 0.63636, p same 0.438). CONCLUSIONS: The anti-gravitational treadmill Alter-G® had no major effect on reducing pain and swelling, increased joint range of plantiflexion and rapid reintegration to physical activity but increased dorsiflexion joint range in ankle sprains in professional soccer players.
