OBJECTIVE: Analyze the evolution of the population with prediabetes and the performance in different types of physical activity during the period 2007 - 2016 using the NHANES database. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From the questionnaires: DEMO, PAQ, DIQ of the NHANES database, a refinement and a classification of this data was made according to the objectives and inclusion and exclusion criteria. Then the data was tabulated, retaining seven risk factors based on predictive models of diabetes risk. Immediately the evolution of the prediabetic population was analyzed with the demographic data obtained from the period 2007-2016 and an equation of projection of growth of said population for 10 years was extracted. Subsequently, the physical activity (AF) predominantly performed by the prediabetic population differentiated by two age groups was associated; in addition to the dosage of frequency and duration of the different AF. Finally, through a logistic regression a multivariate analysis was performed, adjusted and not adjusted, with the STATA software to establish odd ratios and 95 percent confidence intervals (CI). With this information, risk and protection factors were determined through the last decade. RESULTS: At the end of the data analysis a projection equation obtained, y equal 54.8x mas 761.6. This equation estimates that by the year 2030, 14 of every 100 Americans over 18 will suffer from prediabetes. In addition, females represented 51.5 percent of the pre-diabetic population and adults over 65 years 72 percent. In terms of physical activity (PA) the most dominant was recreational of high intensity with 30 percent. This showed and increment in the participation of the older adult population in the last period by 28.2 percent. PA was done mostly in low frequency, 1-3 days per week, with long duration (greater than 60 minutes). On the other hand, after conducting the logistic regression, risk factors were obtained, such as age (OR 3.78, 95 percent CI: 3.24-4.40) and BMI (body mass index), indicating obesity (OR 1.25, 95 percent CI: 0,55-2-86) in the last period. On the contrary, protection factors such as normality in body mass index (BMI), blood pressure and abdominal perimeter of women were identified. CONCLUSIONS: In the last decade there was an increment of prediabetes cases in the American population, along with risk factors as well as protection factors throughout the years. The growth of the prediabetic population is projected linearly, despite greater participation in recreational PA by this population in the last period (2015-2016). Finally, this study aims to promote prevention of the evolution of prediabetes through training programs that will benefit this population.en
