Descripción : Nowadays, environmental pollution is an important issue since it affects the health of human beings and causes discomfort in their well-being. For this reason, it is mandatory to monitor atmospheric pollutants in order to protect the population from the adverse effects they may cause in their organism. This is achieved through the implementation of an atmospheric monitoring network, which serves as an indicator of the pollution of the canton and allows to take the necessary measures to avoid the dispersion towards the inhabitants. In the present work, an analysis of the current measurement points of the Rumiñahui air quality monitoring network was carried out and compared with the new ones proposed. For this purpose, an inventory of the vehicle fleet in the three high traffic points was carried out in order to obtain an estimate of the emissions of the pollutants: carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrogen dioxide NO2, produced by cars. Information was also gathered from the industries in the sector with the aim of studying the emissions produced by the pollutants: nitrogen oxides, benzene, sulfur dioxides, particles and carbon monoxide. New measurement points were established by applying the TA luft methodology of Germany. At these points, measurements of the particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter less than 5 microns or PM2.5 were made during August and September months in order to compare the difference in the concentrations of both months in the nine monitoring points established by the proposed methodology. At the same time, measurements of wind speed and direction were made at the same time that the monitoring of particulate material was carried out in order to establish the influence of these climatological variables on the dispersion of pollutants in the canton. From the study it was concluded that the direction of the wind influences the measurements, bringing the pollutants in different directions depending on the point of measurement.
