Descripción : This study was developed in the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito, and it deals with the consumption patterns of the non-traditional fruits passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) and dragon fruit (Selenicereus grandiflorus). It was conducted by applying surveys to citizens of 9 zonal administrations of the municipality, determining that the patterns are recurrent characteristics in the consumption of fruits (passion fruit anddragon fruit) that help to better understand the acceptance of these fruits by the consumer market and marketer; among the most relevant we have: that for passion fruit the frequency of consumption is (79.3%) occasionally; in one (61.48%) it is consumed for the alimentary benefits that the fruit has; the presentation with greater acceptance is in fresh fruit with one (61.50%). On the other hand, the purchase frequency of dragon fruit is 2-3 times per week in one (76.3%) and the frequency of consumption is daily with one (66.7%). In addition, the supermarket chains supply three of the four regions of the country with a concentrated volume mainly in the Sierra and the Coast; it is in this region where there is the highest internal production of the two fruits, by 82.69% In this study, the macroeconomic data related to the subject of the study are presented, describing the national production of passion fruit, the local offer, the international one, and the analysis of the environment, attention is also given to the generalities in the case of the dragon fruit. During the 2014-2017 period, a volume of 93.4 tons of dragon fruit was exported to France. Ecuador is the first exporter of passion fruit in the world. The company with the highest export volume is Tropifrutas, which in 2018 exported an average of 130 thousand tons of the product to Europe and the United States for a value of $ 60 million.
