Dental implants are currently the ideal alternative to replace missing teeth in the stomatognathic system. A dental implant is a device inserted in the mandibular o maxilar bone, its function is to replace the root of a missing tooth and in this way generate a stable and prolonged bond with the adjacent bone through a process called osseointegration. Osseointegration is conditioned by several factors such as the surface topography of the implant, the type of material and the type of coating. Due to the great importance of osseointegration for the long-term success of dental implants, the need to find techniques and procedures that are favorable for this process has arisen. Objective: To carry out a review on updated bibliography about the methods used to improve the osseointegration of dental implants. Materials and methods: The present review was carried out based on the information gathered from scientific articles found in virtual libraries such as EBSCO HOST, CLINICAL KEY, NCBI, virtual library Carlos Larreátegui Mendieta, ScielO on methods to improve the osseointegration of dental implants. Conclusions: It was concluded that there are abundant techniques to modify the dental implant surface, such as blasting or acid etching, which can change either the implant is topography or it can be added to its surface to improve osseointegration. In addition, several of these methods can be used simultaneously to increase the chances of success of the implant. Each one of the processes to modify the surface must be controlled in a meticulous way so it does not cause unfavorable modifications for osseointegration. Finally, it was concluded by the performance of this review document that simple machined surfaces compared to any other modified surface by different methods such as those described in this document, have less favorable properties when it comes to the osseointegration of the dental implant.en
